Wow- totally agree with your post. On top of thatthuogh. Cafemom doesn't seem like a very nice place to be a part of - the question/answer section is bitchy and judgemental and people seem to hate on each other every 2 seconds.

I cannot believe they do this. I have this interest to join them but I guess this has just changed my mind.

I think it's totally pointless trying to exclude men from sites like Cafe Mom. Afterall, the experience of having children doesn't just affect women.

I really do not understand what the problem is. I mean moms are moms because of men, it all seems childish. Why not pay more attention to child care or parenting, it would be better that way.

Men join anyway. They don't ask gender at registration. They either share with a spouse or hide behind a screenname and keep quiet about their real gender and participate in the site in a positive way and interact like anyone else.

Why not work with the dads, allowing them to be open about themselves, rather than forcing them to be sneaky, cuz there is no way to stop them from joining anyway if they want. If they'be been booted they just sign up again and learn what not to do this time. There are good dads out there that need help or just need interaction like we do.

Having a pair of boobs doesn't make a total stranger trustworthy with personal info, so this "safety net of just us girls" thing is very very naive. As well as thinking a website name is enough to stop the dads from joining up. Text on a screen is not a physical barrier.

Its wierd justice that they let jerky moms play on there openly, but the nice dads on there have to hide themselves.

No way! Except in the case of the effects of single parent families, there are male and female parents. In today's society, ideally you need both perspectives.

It seems to be a trend: after all, MissBimbo is also owned/operated by men, but aimed at women, and it is hardly a feminist site.

How could any space be feminist separatist space if it is owned and controlled by men? Even the starting premise is patriarchal.

I enjoyed this article, thanks.

I love the conclusion you've come to. I never thought of it as achieving the opposite of what the site appears to be promoting. I was just seeing it as more of an elaborate self-delusion at first (wrt the pedophile comment, especially).

To paraphrase Groucho Marx, I wouldn't want to be part of any club that excludes a whole gender, even though I could be a member.
